An ongoing, almost decade-long project, “Shotgun” is a photographic chronicle that delves into the dual realms of physical and metaphysical belonging. Captured predominantly from the passenger seat during countless trips through the landscapes, towns, and cities of the American West, the initial onslaught of images portrays the transient beauty of a road trip, an adventure unfolding through the lens. Yet, as the series unfurls, the once distinct scenes meld into a tapestry of semi-familiar motifs, transforming shapes of structures, machinery, and people into increasingly abstract archetypes.
The viewer is drawn into a sensory flood, the impressions stimulating and overwhelming in equal measure. What begins as a visual journey soon transcends the immediate, blurring the lines between the particular and the archetypal. Each frame speaks to the transformative power of travel, inviting viewers to question what remains to be seen long after their eyes have grown weary.
In “Shotgun”, the boundless West becomes a canvas for the exploration of identity and connection, a visual meditation on the profound impact of the journey, both external and internal.
